Crossback Massage has moved!
Street parking is currently unavailable due to road construction. Come around to the back of the house and ring the doorbell. My house is NOT handicapped accessible, there are 3 flights of stairs to get up to the room, so if you require this, please let me know about your situation and we'll come up with a solution for me to come visit you.
For the first massage, plan for an additional 30 minutes to the massage time. We will use this extra time to go over a consent and health history form, not only because it's the law, but because it's useful for both of us. The health history form will be used as a framework for me to understand what's going on with you and your body and help establish what your goals are. I believe you are the expert of your own body, so I want to learn from you so that we can work together to help you feel great ,which is why it's important for me to know what you have been experiencing. From there, we will work together to make a goal for the session and a long-term wellness goal. These goals could be reducing neck or shoulder tension, sleeping better, less frequent, lower intensity headaches, relaxation, or to just be able to zone out for an hour. We will also talk about the level of pressure you are comfortable with and if there are any areas you want me to focus on or avoid. You can ask me questions or give me instructions based on your experience. You are the expert on your body, my role is to listen and empower you.
Before the massage, I will leave the room to wash my hands while you undress to your comfort level, get on the table, and get under the sheet and blanket. I will ask you if you're ready before I re-enter.
During the massage, I will only uncover the area of the body that I am working on. I won’t uncover any areas you stated you wanted me to avoid. I use oil during most of my massages and will provide a warm wash cloth after the massage if you feel oily afterwards. I will check in regularly unless we are doing a purely relaxation massage during which you want to zone out completely. Regular check ins and questions when doing deep tissue and specific work help ensure comfort, safety, and therapeutic value ( “Is this the spot?” “More or less pressure?” “Does it feel better if I press and hold or if I move across the point?”). Though I will ask fewer during relaxation massages I still like to establish a baseline level of what you like and don't like from massage, especially if we haven't worked together before. Since, you are the expert I welcome feedback and direction whenever you feel the urge. The massage is all about you, my goal is to make it the one of the best massages you've ever gotten each time you get one from me.
After the massage, I will let you know we are finished and I will give you a warm towel and leave the room so you can re-dress. I'll go wash my hands and grab you a glass of water, tea, or coffee. I'll come back in the room once you let me know you're set. We will sit and have a 5-10 minute conversation about how the massage went, what we want to change, how you are feeling, some things you can do at home, and when it would be best for you to come in again.
After you leave, feel free to contact me with any additional questions or concerns. If your pain is worse or you feel more tight the next day, I would like to know so during the next session I know to make some changes in the technique. If you are feeling great, I would love to know that as well and will take note that our approach worked well.
